A wine of movement, memory, and reunion.

Tango & Fado was born from a twenty-year friendship between two winemakers whose paths first crossed in Bordeaux in 2005. Pablo Huarte, from Uruguay, and Carlos Raposo, from Portugal, trained together in France before their careers carried them across Burgundy, Spain, Australia, California and the international fine-wine world. Two decades later, they reunited in Portugal to create the wine they had once dreamed of making together.

The name brings together their two origins through two deeply emotional cultural expressions: Tango and Fado — two arts rooted in earth, memory and melody.

The Wine

From the Dão, one of Portugal's most historic wine regions, this 2021 red comes from 80-year-old vines rooted in granite soils at 400–500 meters of altitude. It is a traditional field blend of more than ten native varieties, including Tinta Pinheira, Baga, Touriga Nacional and Jaen.

Deep ruby in color, with a precise, layered nose of black cherry, wild herbs, iron and damp earth. The palate is taut yet supple, with bright acidity, dark fruit and fine-grained tannins. The finish is long, evolving and mineral, with remarkable finesse and aging potential.

Winemaking

Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and whole bunches. The wine undergoes a 45-day skin maceration in gravity-fed concrete vats built in 1962. No enzymes, DAP, chaptalization or acidification are used.

Aged for 24 months: 70% in five-year-old 228L French oak barrels and 30% in the original concrete vats, with full malolactic fermentation. Bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its character and energy.
